The Ministry of Finance of Kyrgyzstan and the World Bank have signed an agreement for the project "Sustainable Landscape Restoration in the Kyrgyz Republic." The agreement entails World Bank investments totaling $52.4 million aimed at creating a sustainable agro-industrial sector in Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the Ministry of Finance of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The implementation of the project will assist in enhancing the Kyrgyz government's capabilities in monitoring glaciers, snow cover, landslides, and floods, as well as in implementing measures to mitigate and adapt to the consequences of climate change.

Climate change significantly impacts natural disasters in the country, much of which has a mountainous terrain. Mudflows cause colossal damage to arable land.

Within the framework of the project, the construction of dams, bank protection structures, and other works will be carried out in the riverbeds of the Kara-Darya, Kara-Unkur, Jazy, Aravan-Sai, and others.

Additionally, special equipment and engineering machinery will be procured for the specified types of work. It is expected that as a result of project implementation, approximately 10,000 households will be protected from the impacts of natural disasters and economic losses amounting to around $83 million will be prevented.
