Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to connect the energy systems of the three countries, Interfax reports.

The document was signed following a meeting on May 1 in Tashkent of the ministers of economy and energy of the three countries, said Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Mikail Jabbarov.

Jabbarov wrote on social networks that the implementation of this document will allow the three parties to interact in the production of “green” energy and the organization of its export through Azerbaijan to Europe, to ensure the integration of energy systems and the efficient use of renewable energy sources.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, according to the document, the participants will study the possibilities of connecting energy systems by laying a high-voltage cable along the bottom of the Caspian Sea.

The Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almasadam Satkaliev noted that a draft technical specification for laying a deep-sea cable along the bottom of the Caspian Sea had previously been drawn up.

“As part of the terms of reference, a proposed business model will be developed for the development of international transmission corridors (financing, revenue flow and ownership) and for the sale of green energy to the countries of the European Union. Based on the above, a draft memorandum of cooperation was developed between the energy ministries of the three countries on the interconnection of the energy systems of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan,” said Satkaliev, whose words are quoted in the message.

According to the head of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, today the basic approaches to the implementation of this project have been discussed and agreed upon.
