$1 bln agreements signed at Kyrgyz-Chinese Business Forum

The Kyrgyz-Chinese business forum in Urumqi with the participation of more than 100 Chinese businessmen and about 100 entrepreneurs from Kyrgyzstan ended with the signing of agreements with a total amount of $1 billion.

In his speech, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov noted that during his working trip to XUAR “it was possible not only to discuss a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation and outline new, more specific prospects for interaction for the near and long term, but also to make mutually beneficial decisions on joint measures to increase trade, modernize checkpoints, implement projects in the energy sector and build a highway.”

He added that with the support of the government of the XUAR since the beginning of August, two checkpoints "Irkeshtam" and "Torugart" switched to a 7-day 12-hour work schedule and expressed hope that in the future the checkpoints will switch to a round-the-clock operation, which is essential increase their throughput.

The Head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan also mentioned the upcoming launch of the new Bedel checkpoint, adding that a document has been signed that will become the basis for the implementation of the project to build the Barskoon-Uchturfan-Aksu highway passing through the planned Bedel checkpoint. This point will be the third border crossing point on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border.

In addition, Zhaparov expressed readiness to support the initiatives and projects of foreign investors. Among the promising areas for investment in Kyrgyzstan, he noted the sphere of subsoil use, energy and e-commerce.

As a result of the business forum, 29 agreements were signed for a total amount of more than $1 billion.
