Women in Tajikistan face various forms of violence, according to the findings of a study conducted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office in Tajikistan.
The study was conducted in 2019 but the report was published on November 27, 2023. The organization's page on H (formerly Twitter) notes that 31% of women face economic violence, 21% face psychological violence, 20% face physical violence, and 6% face sexual violence.
"But the actual statistics are likely to be much higher," according to the study's authors.
The report was published as part of the "16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence" campaign, which starts annually on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ends on December 10, Human Rights Day. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the public about respecting the rights of women and girls.
This year, the UN is conducting this campaign under the slogan "Violence is not justified."
