The V World Nomad Games will be held from September 8 to 13, 2024, in Astana. The Games will feature 21 sports, half of which are Kazakh national sports, and the other half are national sports from various Turkic countries. This was announced by the Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan, Serik Zharasbayev, reports Kazinform.
"Delegations from 89 countries have confirmed their participation in the Games. More than 2,500 athletes are expected to arrive," said Serik Zharasbayev during a press conference.
Speaking about the sports infrastructure, the Vice Minister of Kazakhstan noted that the "one line" concept will be applied.
"Sports facilities located on Kabanbay Batyr and Turan Avenues, as well as 7 main sports facilities, will be used. The opening ceremony will take place at 'Astana Arena,' and the wrestling competitions will be held at the Zh. Ushkempirov Martial Arts Palace. The athletics arena will be used for accreditation. Additionally, the 'Kazanat' hippodrome is being renovated for national equestrian sports. Competitions in togiz kumalak, mangala, and other sports will be held at the 'Duman' hotel," added the Vice Minister.
Moreover, an international scientific and practical conference will be organized as part of the event.
The author and initiator of the World Nomad Games is Kyrgyzstan. The first Nomad Games were held in September 2014 on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul. The next two Games also took place in Kyrgyzstan - in 2016 and 2018 - and gained wide recognition. Athletes from more than 100 countries participated in these Games.
Turkey hosted the fourth Nomad Games in 2022, skipping the 2020 Games due to the pandemic. The Games were held in the Turkish city of Iznik.
More than three thousand athletes from 102 countries participated in the IV World Nomad Games. Competitions were held in over 40 sports, ranging from various types of wrestling to equestrian sports and archery.
