A joint working committee meeting between Afghanistan and Qatar, led by Qatar’s Deputy Minister of Labor and the head of Afghanistan’s Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs employment section, was held in Doha.
According to Qatar's Ministry of Labor, the meeting emphasized strengthening labor relations between the two countries, reports TOLOnews.com.
"The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries in the labour sector," the statement said.
Meanwhile, many Afghan workers, like Toryalai, continue to struggle with unemployment.
Toryalai, frustrated with his situation, said: "There are many problems. I’m now in debt to shopkeepers. When I take gas, they ask for money. On days I find work, I can only take a little flour home."
Other workers called for more employment opportunities both domestically and abroad.
Noorullah, a worker, stated: "Our demand is to find work in Arab countries or elsewhere so we can escape this situation."
Economic experts believe that sending workers abroad could benefit Afghanistan's economy.
Seyar Qureshi, an economist, said: "Sending Afghan workers to Arab countries can boost the economy as their wages flow back into Afghanistan, contributing to the country's economic cycle."
Previously, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs reported that over 33,000 individuals had received work permits in the past three months.
