Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have agreed to create a large-scale logistics hub in the Afghan province of Herat to develop regional trade. This was reported by the acting Minister of Industry and Trade in the interim government of the Taliban movement Nuruddin Azizi, Eurasia Today reports.
The corresponding agreements were reached at negotiations held in Kabul after six months of consultations.
Within two months, the parties will prepare a draft agreement on the construction of this logistics center at the intersection of trade routes of the North-South Asia corridor.
The initial annual cargo flow through the Herat hub could amount to 1 million tons of hydrocarbons.
In addition, Afghanistan held negotiations with China to create a trade route through the Wakhan corridor to supply Chinese goods to Iran in transit through Afghan territory. According to Azizi, such logistics projects help minimize transit and transport costs.
Earlier, a trilateral meeting was held in Kabul with the participation of delegations of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, at which the construction of a joint logistics center in Turgondi, a trilateral transit agreement, the expansion of the Afghan railway network, including the Termez-Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar and Herat-Kandahar branches were also discussed.
