Afghanistan preparing to begin practical work on TAPI project

The promotion of the TAPI pipeline construction project in Afghanistan and the possibility of increasing its capacity were discussed during a meeting in Kabul between Turkmenistan's Ambassador to Afghanistan, Hajji Ovezov, and Afghanistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amir Khan Muttaqi, Alemarah English reports citing the Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesperson.

They also discussed other issues of bilateral cooperation, including expanding the capabilities of the Turgundi station to enhance transit and transport links, and a joint electricity project at the Nurool Jihadi substation in Herat province, according to Orient.tm.

Minister Muttaqi expressed hope that Afghanistan would resolve remaining issues related to the TAPI project on Afghan territory and commence actual work. He stated that Afghan authorities are finalizing all necessary legal documents for the TAPI project and preparing for the pipeline's construction.

Muttaqi also mentioned that the Afghan administration is working on developing railway facilities at the dry port of Turgundi and will soon provide updated information to Turkmenistan.

During a recent meeting on Afghanistan in Doha, Taliban's official spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated that his government is interested in furthering the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project and is ready to cooperate with regional countries in establishing the North-South international transport corridor.
