The Iranian authorities have reached an agreement with Turkmenistan to reduce tariffs and continue working on simplifying the procedure of freight transportation between the countries, stated the Iranian Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Golam Abbas Arbab Khales, TASS reports.
Currently, the parties are engaged in negotiations that have yielded positive results, Ambassador Khales mentioned. He added that Tehran has lowered transit tariffs to increase transit through the two countries to third-party nations.
"We are negotiating to address the differences in legislation between our countries and customs procedures," the Iranian diplomat explained.
He further added that Tehran is conducting similar negotiations with Uzbekistan.
Prior to this, the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan, Nurmuhammed Amanepesov, proposed at the Central Asia - EU Summit in Cholpon-Ata that the European Union should utilize Afghanistan's transit potential in trade.
Trade and economic partnership are key aspects of cooperation within the "Central Asia - EU" format. This will also enable the realization of potential in this sphere, contributing to the development of transportation routes, Amanepesov clarified.
