Ashgabat may become UN climate center in Central Asia

The authorities of Turkmenistan proposed to establish a regional climate technology center for the countries of Central Asia in Ashgabat. This initiative was announced at the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov with the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Inger Andersen, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a statement, the portal Arzuw.news repotrs.

The main goal of the center should be the introduction and application of climate technologies in the countries of the Central Asian region and the promotion of technological advancement of the region in the field of climate change.

The parties also discussed the main directions and prospects for cooperation in the field of environmental protection, climate change, ecology and rational use of natural resources.
