At the international conference "CIET-2024," Vladimir Petruk, Managing Director of "Interbudmontazh," discussed the prospects for constructing a metro system in Ashgabat. The idea of building a metro in Ashgabat was first introduced in February 2014 by the Chairman of Turkmenistan's Halk Maslahaty (Parliament), Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during a visit to the company "Interbudmontazh," according to Turkmenportal.tm.

Petruk mentioned that experts from Japan's Sumitomo, the Japanese Metro Association, and Germany's consulting group K2 evaluated the feasibility of the project. Over ten months, these specialists analyzed the region's geological conditions and seismic activity, confirming the project's viability using reinforced concrete structures.

The Ashgabat metro concept envisions an eco-friendly transport solution that could eventually connect the capital with the "smart city" of Arkadag, Geokdepe to the west, and Anau to the east. The metro is expected to be operational by 2035.

"Given the growing prosperity of the population and the increasing number of vehicles on city streets, the metro will be the only effective solution to future transportation issues," Petruk emphasized, citing successful metro systems in 36 countries located in seismic zones.

Currently, Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Construction and Architecture is collaborating on this project, and discussions with the UN mission are also planned as part of a program for urban infrastructure development. "Interbudmontazh," with extensive experience in underground construction, has expressed its readiness to participate in the project to improve citizens' quality of life.
