The next meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council (EIGC) will take place in Almaty in person on February 2. It will be attended by the heads of governments of the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) – Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, and the new Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Bakytzhan Sagintayev. He was formerly the head of the Government of Kazakhstan.
The agenda of the meeting includes discussions on the current state and prospects of the development of the integrated information system of the EAEU, the action plan to create favorable conditions for the development of e-commerce in the EAEU, and the integration interaction of the railways of the EAEU countries.
Additionally, the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council will consider the macroeconomic situation in the EAEU countries and proposals for ensuring sustainable economic development.
The meeting plans to discuss the progress of the joint project of EAEU member states for the implementation of accelerated railway and multimodal transportation of agricultural products and foodstuffs, known as the "Eurasian Agroexpress." Furthermore, amendments to the list of priority integration infrastructure projects in the field of transport of the EAEU member states will be discussed.
Starting from January 1, 2024, Armenia assumes the presidency in the Eurasian Economic Union bodies.
