At BRICS Summit, Kyrgyzstan once again raised issue of development of mountainous countries

At the BRICS summit in Kazan, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov addressed the plenary session of the 16th BRICS+ summit in an extended format, the press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan reports.

In his speech, Japarov expressed full support for BRICS' goals, particularly those promoting entrepreneurship, digital and environmentally friendly technologies, and addressing global climate challenges. He noted that these priorities align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) integrated into Kyrgyzstan’s National Development Strategy through 2040.

Kyrgyzstan’s Climate Initiatives

The president emphasized the significance of combating climate change for mountainous countries. He highlighted Kyrgyzstan’s role in initiating the "Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions" for 2023-2027, adopted by the UN General Assembly. Additionally, Kyrgyzstan proposed establishing a new global dialogue on mountains and climate change within the framework of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and forming a Mountain Partnership Negotiating Group.

Push for a Fair Economic Order

Japarov called for a just and non-discriminatory international economic system that ensures universal access to the global economy's benefits and modern technologies. He also voiced support for the development of alternative cross-border payment mechanisms, new financial tools leveraging digital capabilities, and improved payment infrastructure to boost trade regionally and globally.

Cooperation with the BRICS New Development Bank
The president expressed Kyrgyzstan's interest in collaborating with the BRICS New Development Bank, particularly in funding infrastructure and sustainable development projects. He hoped the bank would play an increasing role in eradicating poverty, developing infrastructure, and enhancing resilience to global challenges.

Promoting Digitalization and Green Economy

Japarov emphasized Kyrgyzstan’s readiness to share its expertise in digitalization, infrastructure projects, and transitioning to a green economy with participants in the BRICS+ Outreach format.

In concluding his speech, Japarov reiterated Kyrgyzstan's commitment to contributing to collective efforts in addressing key issues and enhancing multi-faceted cooperation with the summit participants to foster friendship and partnership for the benefit of all people.
