Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid stated that security on the Tajik-Afghan border is being ensured and that special attention is being paid to this section, Sputnik Tajikistan reports.
"Regarding the border with Tajikistan, we are paying special attention to its security. Both sides bear responsibility in this regard; we have fulfilled our obligations well, and we will continue to pay attention in the future," he emphasized.
The statement came after Russian President Vladimir Putin's press conference in Dushanbe, where he emphasized the need to fully ensure security along this border.
The Russian leader previously noted that the Taliban authorities are making efforts to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan, but that problematic issues remain, requiring increased attention to border security. Putin also noted the Taliban's willingness to cooperate in countering terrorist threats and drug trafficking, emphasizing Russia's support for this approach. The parties' position demonstrates a mutual interest in maintaining stability on the Tajik-Afghan border, which is of strategic importance.
