The project for transmitting electricity CASA-1000 will annually bring Afghanistan $75 million in transit fees, reported TOLOnews, citing the spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Afghanistan, Matiullah Abid.
The practical implementation of the construction of the CASA-1000 power transmission line will resume after the Eid al-Fitr holiday. It is expected that the project will start operating by 2026, and Afghanistan will receive $75 million annually as transit fees, stated the Afghan minister.
The largest project for transmitting electricity from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Pakistan through Afghanistan will cover a 580-kilometer stretch in Afghanistan.
CASA-1000 will transmit 1300 megawatts of surplus electricity from Central Asian countries to high-demand electricity markets in South Asia by building new energy infrastructure.
It was previously reported that Uzbekistan and Afghanistan intend to enhance economic cooperation.
