An unusual phenomenon was recorded in Kazakhstan on one of the beaches of the city of Aktau. Local residents expressed concern about what was happening and asked environmentalists for help, Kazinform reports.

However, as reported by the Department of Ecology of the Mangistau region of Kazakhstan, there is no need to worry, since this is a natural phenomenon.

- On February 12 of this year, specialists from the Department of Ecology of the Mangistau region took a sample of sea water in connection with the annual phenomenon when the coast of the Caspian Sea turns red. As part of the study, the water is analyzed for the presence of chemicals and oil products. The results will be published later, - the report says.

As explained by ecologist from Aktau Kirill Osin, this phenomenon is repeated every year in the winter, when there is active growth of algae, which begin to bloom.

- Especially when it snows, the red tint can look frightening. In fact, these are brown algae, - the ecologist noted.

Water samples were taken from the beaches of Dostar, Nur-Plaza and in the area of the yacht club.

It was previously reported that the Kazakh Research Institute of the Caspian Sea was transferred to the Ministry of Ecology.
