A series of expert meetings was held in Ashgabat with representatives from Caspian littoral states to discuss the development of five-party cooperation documents for the Caspian Sea, reports Turkmenportal.com.
Delegates reviewed a draft Agreement on Cooperation in Marine Scientific Research and a draft Protocol on Joint Measures to Combat Illegal Fishing, linked to the 2010 Agreement on Caspian Sea Security Cooperation.
Participants included officials from the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, Caspian Sea Institute, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, as well as relevant agencies from Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Russia.
The sides noted progress in finalizing the documents and agreed to continue joint work.
The Turkmen Foreign Ministry emphasized the country’s focus on strengthening regional cooperation, protecting the Caspian’s unique ecosystem, and advancing the Caspian Environmental Initiative. Turkmenistan will chair the Commission on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Caspian Sea Biological Resources in 2025–2026.
