The Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of Tajikistan organized a regional dialogue of Central Asian countries aimed at developing a coordinated position ahead of the upcoming 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30), which will take place in Belém, Brazil, Khovar reports.

Held under the slogan “80 million people, 5 countries, 1 voice,” the event brought together senior government officials, representatives of international organizations, and experts to discuss key areas of regional climate cooperation.

First Deputy Chairman of the Committee Isfandiyor Shukurzada emphasized that regional solidarity is essential for effectively addressing transboundary environmental challenges:

“Only through close cooperation can we cope with the consequences of glacier melting and attract the necessary financing for sustainable and green development of the region,” he noted.

The dialogue program included three thematic sessions dedicated to:

  • increasing climate ambitions within the framework of updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs 3.0);

  • protecting glaciers and mountain ecosystems as a shared regional priority;

  • strengthening coordination and involving youth in shaping a unified Central Asian climate position.

Participants stressed that the upcoming summit will mark a turning point — a shift from planning to the practical implementation of climate initiatives. A key focus will be the launch of a five-year Global Action Program plan, requiring concrete measures to enhance climate adaptation and resilience.

The approaches agreed upon in Dushanbe will enable Central Asian countries to present a consolidated position at COP30, represent regional interests more effectively on the international stage, and attract additional funding for environmental and climate projects.
