For the first time in several years, China's share in Kazakhstan's trade turnover reached 21.3%. This is the highest figure since 2017. During January-September of the current year, the countries exchanged goods worth $21.7 billion.
Long-term data shows that China gradually increased its share in both Kazakhstan's imports and exports. In 2017, China's share in the total volume of Kazakhstan's foreign sales was relatively low at only 12%. Now, it has grown by 6 percentage points. China's share in Kazakhstan's imports has increased from 15.9% to 25.5% over the years, as reported by Energyprom.kz.
Russia has been China's main competitor in the Kazakhstani market all these years, but its position weakened this year. The total export and import between Kazakhstan and Russia amounted to $18.9 billion.
Another record for China in trade with Kazakhstan: this year, the import of Chinese goods ($11.3 billion) exceeded the export in monetary terms ($10.4 billion) for the first time.
