The China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) has been increasing oil and gas production in countries and regions participating in the "Belt and Road" initiative for the fourth consecutive year, exceeding 80 million metric tons. The cumulative annual trade volume of the two energy resources has reached 250 million tons.

Gas supplies from Central Asia to China through the China-Central Asia trunk pipeline are expected to gain momentum as construction of the fourth pipeline is in full swing, the Chinese newspaper China Daily reports.

CNPC has stated its intention to accelerate the construction of Pipeline D in the China-Central Asia gas pipeline. With a designed gas transportation capacity of 30 billion cubic meters per year, Pipeline D will pass through Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. The existing A, B, and C pipelines allow for the transportation of 55 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.

According to CNPC, in 2022, the China-Central Asia gas pipeline delivered 42 billion cubic meters of natural gas, with a daily capacity of 100 million cubic meters. Since its launch in 2009, the pipeline has transported 423 billion cubic meters of gas. The resource base for the pipeline consists of deposits in Turkmenistan.
