President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov inaugurated the construction of the "China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan" railway in the village of Tosh-Kutchu, Jalal-Abad region, reports Economist.kg.
In his speech, Japarov emphasized that the construction of this railway is a historic event that will usher in a new era in the development of the region's transport infrastructure. He described the route as a strategic bridge connecting the countries of the East and West.
"The new railway corridor will serve as the southern link of Eurasia's continental bridge, opening access to the markets of Southeast, Western Asia, and the Middle East. This route will enable the transportation of goods from China to Kyrgyzstan, as well as to Central Asian and Middle Eastern countries, including Turkey and further to the European Union," he said.
The project will strengthen interregional ties, help diversify transport routes, and enhance the region's competitiveness as an international transport and transit hub.
In an address by Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, read by Uzbekistan's Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjayev, it was noted that the commencement of the construction of the "China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan" railway is a historic event that the three countries have been working toward for nearly 30 years.
He emphasized that the new international transport artery, which will connect Central Asia with China via the shortest overland route, will contribute to further expanding multifaceted cooperation and strengthening the strategic partnership among the three states.
At the conclusion of the event, Sadyr Japarov participated in a symbolic ceremony of laying the first stone for the foundation of the railway construction.
The investment agreement for the construction of the railway was signed in Bishkek by Kyrgyzstan's Minister of Transport and Communications, Absattar Syrgabayev, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the "China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway Company" LLC, Zhong Shengui.
