The implementation of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan (CKU) railway strategic project has entered its active phase. More than 5,000 people are already involved in construction, according to the press service of the Kyrgyz government.

Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Erlist Akunbekov discussed the progress of work already underway with representatives of the project company. The meeting was also attended by the heads of the Ministry of Transport of Kyrgyzstan and the national company Kyrgyz Temir Zholu.

The bulk of the current work is focused on tunnel boring, bridge construction, and roadway preparation. The use of over 5,600 units of specialized equipment allows for the rapid pace of construction on key sections of the route. The Cabinet of Ministers pledged its commitment to providing full coordination and support for the project to ensure its successful completion within the established timeframe.

During the discussion, Erlist Akunbekov tasked the contractors with strictly adhering to environmental and safety standards. Given that the route passes through challenging mountainous terrain, compliance with environmental legislation is a priority. For its part, the government guarantees the creation of all necessary conditions for foreign and local specialists working on construction sites.

The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project is intended to become a vital transport corridor, connecting the region to global markets and boosting the development of the country's processing industry and agricultural sector.

According to preliminary estimates, construction of the railway, costing over $4.6 billion, will be completed by 2030.
