Construction of the Upper Naryn Cascade of Hydroelectric Power Plants will soon begin in Kyrgyzstan, said Kyrgyz Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibrayev at the IX Congress "Hydroenergy: Central Asia and the Caspian Sea", Kaktus.media reports.
"I hope that literally at the end of the month, perhaps in May, the Upper Naryn Cascade will be in progress, and we will soon begin its construction," Ibrayev said.
The Minister noted that he cannot provide exact data on possible investors, but negotiations are currently underway with the Russian side. He specified that a tender for the construction of the Upper Naryn Cascade of Hydroelectric Power Plants is planned to be announced in the near future.
"In the future, we will announce a tender and find a winner. We are currently negotiating with Russian companies. In any case, any construction is carried out on a competitive basis. We will begin construction in the near future. This is not a year or two, but in the coming months - April-May," Ibrayev emphasized.
It is noted that on March 1, 2023, it became known about the signing of a memorandum of understanding on the construction of the Upper Naryn Cascade of Hydroelectric Power Stations with the British company MINDDOCK LIMITED DBA Enterprise Energy Investments. However, construction never began, and the project remains in limbo today.
