CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas said in Yerevan that the organization has the resources to help normalize the situation on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border, if both states deem it necessary, 24.kg reports.

“In the Central Asian region, we attach particular importance to the further normalization of relations on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border. We believe that the CSTO has the necessary resources and experience to assist our two states in achieving this goal,” he said during a meeting of the organization’s statutory bodies in Yerevan.

The regular session of the CSTO Collective Security Council is being held in the capital of Armenia. The participants will discuss the situation in the CSTO area of responsibility and topical issues of international security.

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov is also taking part in the session.

In September of this year, a military clash took place on the border of two CSTO member states, which lasted three days. Border guards and civilians on the border were killed on both sides. Only after negotiations between Presidents Zhaparov and Rakhmon did the situation stabilize. However, the parties have not yet reached a final resolution of border disputes, and the situation remains tense.

Official delegations hold intensive negotiations in one country, then in another. Russia has already offered mediation in resolving the dispute, but has not yet joined the negotiation process, although it has stated that it has all the necessary documents to take into account the positions of the parties.

The proposal of the CSTO Secretary General Zas was made before the start of the meeting of the heads of state of the countries included in the Organization. The meeting took place in Yerevan.
