United States adopt an act to ensure a normal trade regime with Uzbekistan

Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the United States Javlon Vakhabov held talks with representatives of the US Congress. At the meeting, issues of further expansion of the Uzbek-American inter-parliamentary cooperation were discussed, Dunyo reports.

The parties also discussed ways to expand partnerships in trade, economic, investment, transport and humanitarian areas.

Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton highly appreciated the level of bilateral relations between the US and Uzbekistan, reaffirmed his readiness to contribute to strengthening and expanding the strategic partnership between the US and Uzbekistan. The senator congratulated Uzbekistan on the 10th anniversary of the partnership between the Ministry of Defense of Uzbekistan and the Mississippi National Guard.

The co-chair of the “Caucus on Uzbekistan” in the House of Representatives, Vicente Gonzalez, during a meeting with the Ambassador of Uzbekistan, said that close inter-parliamentary ties should become an important pillar for promoting a multifaceted strategic partnership. The congressman noted the intention to make significant progress in the issue of withdrawing Uzbekistan from the Jackson-Vanik amendment through the adoption of a special Act aimed at ensuring a normal trade regime between the United States and Uzbekistan.

Rep. Pete Sessions, a member of the Uzbekistan Caucus, said he was determined to actively promote Uzbekistan's visibility on Capitol Hill by bringing other US lawmakers into the friendship group.

Following the meeting with representatives of the US Congress, agreements were reached on maintaining regular contacts on topical issues of the Uzbek-American agenda, including inter-parliamentary relations. US lawmakers have assured that they will continue active efforts to strengthen the bilateral strategic partnership.

Recently, the United States donated almost $3 million worth of military equipment to Uzbekistan and noted that this step is just one form of assistance.
