Employees of the Financial Monitoring Agency of Kazakhstan have disrupted a channel for the supply of narcotics from the United States. The individuals involved received various terms of imprisonment, TASS reports.

"During further verification measures, a group of individuals engaged in the illegal transportation of narcotics in especially large quantities across the state border and trafficking through the Telegram messenger was identified. Narcotic substances were also found and seized from them: 705 grams of marijuana and 1,266 grams of hashish. By the court's verdict, seven guilty individuals were sentenced to imprisonment ranging from 3 to 16.5 years," the statement said.

This has effectively halted the operations of a drug smuggling channel from the United States to Kazakhstan and several Telegram channels involved in the trafficking of narcotics within the territory of Almaty.

Earlier, a resident of Almaty was detained while receiving postal shipments from the United States. Upon inspection, 649 grams of dried marijuana and 676 grams of hashish were found and seized.
