Since 2020, Kazakhstan’s e-commerce sector has increased sevenfold, yet it remains below the global average, reports Kazinform.

Director of the Department for Domestic Trade Development at the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, Ansar Orazaliev, provided the data, noting that e-commerce is increasingly becoming part of the country’s everyday economic life.

According to international analytics, the global e-commerce market reached $6.3 trillion in 2024, accounting for 20% of total retail trade. In 2025, the market is expected to grow to $6.8–7 trillion, with projections exceeding $8 trillion by 2028.

— In 2024, Kazakhstan’s domestic e-commerce turnover reached 3.2 trillion tenge, or 14.1% of total retail trade. By the end of 2025, this share is expected to reach 15%, with a target of 18.5% by 2029, — Orazaliev said at a briefing at the Central Communications Service (CCS).

He added that the sector’s growth potential is driven by widespread adoption of cashless payments, development of retail fintech, and increased internet accessibility.

— The number of sellers on marketplaces is also growing. On many platforms, multiple vendors now compete within a single product listing. This trend is largely driven by mid-tier sellers opting for marketplaces over creating their own websites, allowing faster market entry and access to platform resources such as customer bases and logistics. The number of sellers is expected to continue rising, alongside adoption of new tools to gain competitive advantages, — Orazaliev emphasized.
