In Almaty, the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) organized a conference titled "Promoting Sustainable Development in Central Asia." The event focused on analyzing global challenges faced by Central Asia and EDB member states, the bank's press service reported.
Participants discussed issues including regional transport connectivity, the role of international and regional players in climate processes, and scaling up climate financing.
The conference was structured into three sessions:
- "Partnerships in Central Asia: Tackling Global Challenges Through Local Lenses."
- "Transport Connectivity in Central Asia: Multilateral Development Bank (MDB) Approaches."
- "Scaling Climate Financing Flows and Co-Financing by Development Financial Institutions (DFIs) in Central Asia: Challenges and Opportunities."
Speaking at the conference, Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Chairman of the EEC Board, emphasized that global challenges, such as climate change, impact all aspects of life, including the economy.
"In recognition of the significance of this issue, the heads of Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) states issued a declaration in 2021 expressing their commitment to developing economic cooperation in combating climate change and its effects," Sagintayev stated. "The declaration aims to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) based on the principles of the EAEU's single market."
He further noted that economic integration could serve as a key driver for EAEU countries to achieve their SDG targets.
