The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) has expressed its readiness to invest up to $500 million in the construction of the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 in Kyrgyzstan. This was announced by the bank's chairman, Nikolai Podguzov, during a press conference in Almaty, reported Economist.kg.
"We are actively working on this project together with the World Bank. The EDB is ready to provide funding both for technical assistance in preparing the feasibility study and for the project’s implementation," said Podguzov. He also noted that the final cost of the project has not yet been determined, but it is preliminarily estimated at $3-4 billion.
The Kambar-Ata HPP-1 is being built on the Naryn River in the Toktogul district of the Jalal-Abad region. Once completed, the hydropower station will become one of the largest in Central Asia. The project is being implemented by the Electric Stations JSC.
