The Swiss government will allocate $8 million for the implementation of a project to modernize the energy sector in Kyrgyzstan. The press service of the Ministry of Finance of Kyrgyzstan informed about the signed agreement between the Ministry of Finance of Kyrgyzstan and the Embassy of Switzerland in Bishkek.

The funds will be allocated on a grant basis. The project itself will be completed by 2028.

Currently, about 70% of the distribution assets of the Kyrgyz energy sector have already reached their end of life, leading to frequent interruptions in the supply of electricity due to equipment failures and overloads throughout the country.

At the same time, Kyrgyzstan has one of the lowest electricity tariffs in the world, which places a heavy financial burden on the country, the Ministry of Finance of Kyrgyzstan emphasizes.
