In the southern regions of Kyrgyzstan, large gas deposits have been discovered, announced Arzymat Aldayarov, Acting Deputy Director for Economics and Finance of Kyrgyzstan, during the presentation of the results of the work of Gazprom Kyrgyzstan LLC for the year 2023, Economist.kg reports.
The total volume of explored natural gas is estimated at 5 billion cubic meters.
Aldayarov emphasized that such a volume of gas reserves is capable of meeting the needs of the southern region for seven to eight decades.
At the moment, the development of an independent audit study is planned, the purpose of which is to confirm the existence of the declared reserves and assess the readiness of the infrastructure for gas production. The audit results will determine the strategy for further actions.
In Kyrgyzstan, ensuring stable gas supplies to the southern regions of the country remains relevant, but the exploitation of a new deposit could be a solution to this issue.
"As you can see, there are difficulties in ensuring stable supplies to the south of the country. Ensuring and developing our own production base can solve this problem for many years to come, so as not to depend on external supplies," believes Aldayarov.
This will not only provide the population with affordable energy resources but will also be more economically advantageous compared to transit costs, as he emphasized.
In Kyrgyzstan, gas deposits have been explored, primarily concentrated in the Batken and Jalal-Abad regions.
The most significant deposits include the Suzak and Southern Rishtan deposits, as well as Sary-Tok (depleted) and Sarykamysh (reserve), considering their statuses as reserve and depleted, respectively.
Suzak Deposit:
- Volume: 2.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
- Development started: 1964.
- Location: Jalal-Abad region.
- Operator: Gazprom Kyrgyzstan LLC.
Other deposits:
- Mayli-Suyskoye deposit - mothballed in 2014.
- Chigirchik deposit - mothballed in the 1990s.
- Sary-Jaz deposit - explored but not developed.
Perspectives:
Exploration of new deposits in the Fergana, Chui, and Alay depressions.
Construction of the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan-China gas pipeline.
Kyrgyzstan's gas demand per year is 440 million cubic meters. Almost the entire volume of consumed gas is provided by Gazprom-Kyrgyzstan, a subsidiary of the Russian Gazprom.
