Turkmenistan increased the export of electricity to foreign countries in 2022 by 30% compared to 2021, Trend reports with reference to the report of the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The increase in Turkmen exports was made possible by the growth of production at a large complex of gas-fired power plants in the Mary region in the southeast of Turkmenistan.

In August 2021, Turkmenistan began exporting electricity to Kyrgyzstan, while already in the first half of 2022, increasing these supplies to 1.7 TWh, the IEA said.

In October 2022, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan agreed to increase electricity supplies to 4 TWh per year, which could improve the security of electricity supply in Uzbekistan.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an organization that works with countries around the world to shape energy policies for a secure and sustainable future.
