FIFA has released an updated ranking of the world's national teams. National teams from Central Asian countries mostly rank outside the top 100. Only one team from the region is among the top 100—Uzbekistan, which holds the 57th position in the ranking. The ranking review was published by Eurasiatoday.ru.
Kyrgyzstan ranks higher than Kazakhstan, which sits at 113th place. The Kyrgyz national team is in 103rd place.
Next is Tajikistan, which occupies the 104th position.
Kazakhstan's low ranking is attributed to the fact that the team competes in the European zone, where it faces stronger opponents in World Cup and Euro qualifiers. However, competition in Asia has also become tougher in recent years, as Asian teams have significantly improved. The lowest-ranked Central Asian team is Turkmenistan, which sits at 145th place.
The FIFA ranking includes 210 national teams. The top five teams in the world are Argentina, Spain, France, England, and Brazil.
Within the AFC (Asian Football Confederation), Kyrgyzstan is ranked 17th, having moved up one position. The best-ranked team in the AFC is Japan (15th place), followed by Iran (18th place), both of which are in FIFA’s top 20.
Earlier, Kyrgyzstan played two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the Asian zone:
-
On March 20, the team lost to Uzbekistan 0-1 in Tashkent.
-
On March 25, Kyrgyzstan defeated Qatar 3-1 in Bishkek.
