The first freight train from Russia via the international transport corridor "North-South" has traveled to Iran through the border crossing of Inche-Burun, adjacent to Turkmenistan, Shahriar Shahriari, the Director-General of the Customs Department of the Iranian province of Golestan, stated, Newscentralasia.net reports.

This marked the first freight train from Russia to Saudi Arabia. Its route traversed the international transport corridor "North-South," transiting through the territories of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Iran.

Subsequently, the train will continue south to the port of Bandar Abbas, from where the cargo will be shipped to Jeddah.

This new route is expected to significantly reduce the delivery time of goods by several days.

The cost of transit for goods along the "North-South" corridor has been nearly halved due to a reduction in customs tariffs, emphasized Shahriari.

It is anticipated that the "North-South" transport corridor will facilitate the transportation of products from India, China, and East Asia to Europe, amounting to nearly $250 billion, the message stated.
