Kazakhstan has refused to join Western sanctions against Russia, Kazakh Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi told the Japanese NHK TV channel.

The Minister was in Japan on a visit, during which he took part in a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Kazakhstan will not allow restrictions to be circumvented on its territory, Tleuberdi added at the same time.

"Economically, Russia and Kazakhstan have close ties, and sanctions against Russia have negatively affected the economy of Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan does not participate in sanctions against Russia, but adheres to the principle that it will not be used by various companies to circumvent sanctions. We will continue the current relations between Kazakhstan and Russia," the Kazakh minister said.

The head of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry also said that he was concerned about the Ukrainian crisis and added that the President of Kazakhstan is in constant contact with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine.

After the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, the United States and its NATO allies stepped up sanctions pressure on Russia, which led to an increase in prices for electricity, fuel and food in Europe and the States themselves. Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire world economy.
