Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu the prospects for developing a bilateral partnership. This is stated in a statement released by the press service of the US State Department.
As follows from the document, Blinken and Nurtleu “discussed mutual interest in developing partnerships between the United States and Kazakhstan.” They exchanged views on “bilateral economic partnership” and assured of their commitment to “increasing investment and diversifying the economy of Kazakhstan.”
Blinken, the statement said, emphasized the “key role of free media and a thriving civil society” in creating the conditions to “attract business investment and drive economic growth” for the country. The heads of foreign affairs departments also touched upon the situation around Ukraine.
As Kazakh Foreign Ministry spokesman Aibek Smadiyarov reported on March 20, Nurtleu will meet with Blinken and “high-ranking officials” during his official visit to the United States on March 26. On March 29-30, the minister will pay a visit to China at the invitation of Beijing. He is expected to hold talks with Deputy Premier of the State Council of China Ding Xuexiang, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and meet with the heads of large Chinese companies.
