Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Mukhriddin and Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev held a telephone conversation and discussed topical issues regarding bilateral relations, Avesta reports.

The telephone conversation was initiated by the Kyrgyz side, the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan said.

During the conversation, the interlocutors exchanged views on the issue of Tajik-Kyrgyz cooperation.

In particular, the parties discussed preparations for the events planned for 2023 at the highest and high levels.

Bilateral relations began to soften slightly after the heads of state exchanged congratulations on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in January 2023.

Relations escalated in October 2022, after clashes took place on the border of the two countries in the Ferghana Valley. As a result of the border conflict, the parties suffered human and material losses. The parties blamed each other, and CSTO mediation was offered to resolve the conflict.

However, since then negotiations have been held only by authorized bodies, which have already agreed on a number of disputed areas.

The total length of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan is more than 940 km, of which about 630 km have been agreed upon.
