A verdict was announced in a criminal case against Karim Massimov (former chairman of the National Security Committee (KNB), former prime minister of Kazakhstan) and citizens Sadykulov, Yergozhin, Osipov (former deputy chairman of the KNB of Kazakhstan) in their presence in Kazakhstan's capital Astana. The case was considered by the court under the heading "Top Secret", Kazinform reported.
Massimov and Sadykulov were accused of high treason, forcible seizure of power in Kazakhstan and abuse of power and official authority.
Massimov was found guilty under part 1 of article 175, part 3 of article 179, paragraph 3 of part 4 of article 362 of the Criminal Code by a court decision; the right to hold positions in the civil service.
Sadykulov was found guilty under part 1 of article 175, part 3 of article 179, paragraph 3 of part 4 of article 362 of the Criminal Code, by partial addition of punishments, a sentence of 16 years in prison was finally imposed, with life deprivation of the right to hold positions in the civil service.
Yergozhin was found guilty under part 3 of article 179, paragraph 3 of part 4 of article 362 of the Criminal Code, by partial addition of punishments, a final sentence of 15 years in prison was finally imposed, with life deprivation of the right to hold positions in the civil service.
All four defendants in the case were deprived of the ranks of generals and state awards.
More than 10 billion tenge and $24 million were recovered to the state revenue.
The verdict has not entered into force yet.
