The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) has proposed that Turkmenistan join its organization. This information is indicated on the official website of the organization on the X social media platform, Eurasia Today reports.
The organization's statement notes that Turkmenistan, possessing significant natural gas reserves and being a key exporter of this energy resource, could find it beneficial to join the GECF and participate in its activities.
Earlier in April, the Secretary-General of the GECF, Mohammed Hamel, held talks with the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Qatar, Myratgeldy Seyitmammedov.
During the negotiations, detailed information was presented about the role and activities of the GECF, which brings together 20 member countries on a parity basis.
According to the forecasts of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, by 2050, the level of gas production in Turkmenistan could reach 110 billion cubic meters. The country possesses colossal reserves of natural gas estimated at 13.9 trillion cubic meters.
Moreover, its geographical location is highly advantageous for gas supplies to major consumer markets, including China, India, and Pakistan.
Currently, Turkmenistan exports natural gas to China, Russia, and Uzbekistan. Joining the prestigious international organization, as noted by the GECF, could be a very promising step for further development of the country's gas sector.
