Four documents were signed at the Summit of the Heads of States - Founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) in Dushanbe, according to the press service of the President of Kazakhstan.
Specifically, the following documents were signed:
- Dushanbe Declaration of the Heads of States - Founders of IFAS.
- A decision on the results of Tajikistan's chairmanship in the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).
- A decision on activities aimed at improving the organizational structure and legal framework of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.
- A decision on the election of the President of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.
The International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea was established in 1993 to address the ecological disaster in the Aral Sea region. IFAS finances and implements various projects and programs aimed at environmental protection and restoration, rational use of water resources, adaptation to climate change, improving the socio-economic well-being of the population, and developing tourism in the Aral Sea Basin.
The Summit of the participating countries of the Aral Sea Saving Fund took place after the 5th Consultative Meeting of the leaders of Central Asian countries.
