France is one of the most important trade, economic and political partners of Kazakhstan, Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Roman Vasilenko said, commenting on the visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to France, Kazinform reports.
Assessing the visit, Vasilenko said, “As you know, this is the first trip of the head of state to Europe since the inauguration, on Saturday 26 November. France is one of our most important trade, economic and political partners. We signed a strategic partnership agreement with France in 2008. More than 170 French companies or companies with French participation operate in Kazakhstan,” Vasilenko said.
France has been one of the top five investors in Kazakhstan since 2005, having invested more than $17 billion, said a Kazakhstani deputy minister.
“During the visit, the emphasis was placed on the discussion of political cooperation, trade and economic cooperation, cooperation in the field of education. A number of economic agreements were concluded between Kazakhstan and France during this visit, in particular, on the expansion of the production of locomotives and other types of equipment of the French company. In addition, an agreement was signed on the construction of a powerful wind farm in the Zhambyl region with a capacity of 1.2 gigawatts,” Vasilenko said.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev arrived in France on an official visit after talks in Moscow with the Russian leadership.
In Paris, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, during which they discussed the prospects for developing a strategic partnership in trade, economic, investment and humanitarian spheres.
