In Uzbekistan, gas and oil production, as well as electricity generation, are slightly decreasing in 2024. This is evidenced by statistical data on industrial production for January-May 2024, published by the Statistics Agency of Uzbekistan.
In the first 5 months of this year, gas production in Uzbekistan amounted to 18.8 billion cubic meters, which is 1 billion cubic meters, or 5.2%, less compared to the same period in 2023.
Gas production figures for January-May 2024:
- January – 3.99 billion cubic meters (4.31 billion cubic meters for the same period last year);
- February – 3.71 billion cubic meters (3.85 billion cubic meters);
- March – 3.89 billion cubic meters (4.16 billion cubic meters);
- April – 3.7 billion cubic meters (3.94 billion cubic meters);
- May – 3.52 billion cubic meters (3.6 billion cubic meters).
For reference, in 2022, gas production in Uzbekistan decreased from 53.8 billion to 51.67 billion cubic meters, or 4%, and in 2023, from 51.67 billion to 46.71 billion cubic meters, or 9.6%.
Changes in natural gas production volumes from 2017 to 2023 (data from the Statistics Agency of Uzbekistan):
- 2017 – 56.4176 billion cubic meters;
- 2018 – 60.3965 billion cubic meters;
- 2019 – 60.5375 billion cubic meters;
- 2020 – 49.7362 billion cubic meters;
- 2021 – 53.802 billion cubic meters;
- 2022 – 51.6784 billion cubic meters;
- 2023 – 46.7103 billion cubic meters.
Natural gas production in Uzbekistan has been steadily declining in recent years. Specifically, from 2019 to 2023, this decline amounted to 22.8%. The decrease in domestic production is being compensated by gas imports from Turkmenistan and Russia.
In the first 5 months, coal production amounted to 1,901.5 thousand tons, which is 73.7 thousand tons or 3.7% less compared to the same period last year.
Also, during the reporting period, oil production decreased from 327.6 thousand tons to 305 thousand tons, while gas condensate production increased from 511.2 thousand tons to 527.5 thousand tons.
In January-May, electricity production decreased by 1.3% or 426 million kWh compared to the same period last year. Specifically, 31.58 billion kWh of electricity was produced in the first 5 months of 2023, while in the corresponding period of this year, this figure decreased to 31.16 billion kWh.
During the reporting period, diesel fuel production decreased from 439.8 thousand tons to 384.4 thousand tons (-12.6%), while gasoline production increased from 550.8 thousand tons to 568.9 thousand tons (+3.2%).
