According to the results of the first half of 2026, the role of goods-producing industries in the Kyrgyz economy significantly increased. According to preliminary data from the National Statistical Committee, their share of GDP increased to 33.9%, compared to 29.7% the year before. At the same time, the share of the service sector decreased from 54.5% to 50.1%, although the sector maintained positive momentum, increasing by 6%, Akchabar.kg reports.
Construction and industry demonstrated the highest growth rates. Their contribution to GDP increased to 8.5% and 20.5%, respectively, while agriculture's share decreased to 4.9%. Overall, the country's economy grew by 11.9% from January to June, and GDP reached 960 billion soms ($11 billion).
Analytical Commentary
The change in the economic structure indicates Kyrgyzstan's gradual transition from a predominantly service-based model to a more industrial one. This is in line with the economic policy of President Sadyr Japarov, who in recent years has placed a strong emphasis on industrial development, large-scale construction, energy, and transport infrastructure.
The implementation of major projects, including the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, the development of oil fields, and the modernization of hydropower, is creating a new foundation for long-term growth. The primary objective now is to maintain high growth rates by attracting investment, expanding the export of high-value-added products, and increasing industrial productivity.
