The Chairman of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of Kyrgyzstan, Kamchybek Tashiev, has been elected as the President of the Kyrgyz Football Union (KFU). In his first press conference in this capacity, he pledged to make Kyrgyzstan a "football country," Asia Plus reports.

"I accept Kyrgyz football in its current state. I think we need to address three problems. First is the development of football infrastructure, which should be the main task. We only have a few stadiums in Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Bishkek. In every city and district, football stadiums should be built in the coming months. Football fields will be constructed in every village. Kyrgyzstan will become a football country in the near future," stated Tashiev.

According to him, the other two main tasks to be addressed are the revival of youth football through the construction of football academies in all cities and strengthening the domestic championship by inviting strong players to Kyrgyz clubs.

The new head of the KFU noted that he has "a lot of other work," but he loves football, and it is "to his liking to develop this sport."

Tashiev also announced that there would be changes to the player selection system for the national team. According to him, young Kyrgyz players performing in Europe will be called up to the national team. When asked about whether his son, who plays in the Barcelona system, will receive a call-up, the new head of the KFU emphasized that it is the prerogative of the national team coach.

Tashiev, who was elected as the President of the Kyrgyz Football Federation without alternative candidates, emphasized that this is the "president's assignment."

He replaces Meder Sydykov, who resigned after the Kyrgyzstan national team's unsuccessful performance in the Asian Cup.
