The 13th meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of Kyrgyzstan and the Republic of Kazakhstan was held in Astana, where the most pressing issues in bilateral relations were discussed, Akchabar.kg reports.
The meeting was co-chaired by the Head of the Cabinet of Ministers – Chief of the Presidential Administration of Kyrgyzstan, Adylbek Kasymaliev, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov.
During the session, the parties discussed the progress in implementing previously reached agreements, including the Comprehensive Cooperation Plan for 2025–2027 and the Roadmap for Increasing Bilateral Trade Turnover by 2030, which were approved following the meetings of Presidents Sadyr Japarov and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Special attention was paid to cooperation in the fields of water management and energy, which have traditionally occupied a central place in the bilateral agenda. The sides emphasized the need for joint management of transboundary water resources, the rational use of the Chu and Talas river basins, and the coordination of water infrastructure operations in the interests of both countries.
The parties also discussed prospects for the development of energy cooperation, including electricity supplies, modernization of hydrotechnical facilities, and the implementation of joint projects in the field of renewable energy. The importance of further harmonizing approaches to the use of the region’s water and energy potential was underscored, taking into account climate change and the growing needs of both economies.
In addition, the participants reviewed the expansion of cooperation in trade and economic, transport and logistics, cultural and humanitarian, and cross-border areas, noting the high level of mutual understanding and readiness to put the reached agreements into practice.
