Hungary views Turkmenistan as a promising supplier of natural gas and hopes to establish direct deliveries in the near future, Deputy State Secretary of Hungary’s Foreign Ministry for Eastern Relations Development Ádám Stifter said at the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission held on September 29–30 in Ashgabat, Turkmenportal.com reports.

“We see Turkmenistan as a reliable partner in the energy sector. Given Hungary’s diversified gas imports, we place high expectations on cooperation with Ashgabat and look forward to the launch of supplies soon,” the diplomat noted.

Hungary’s Deputy State Secretary for EU Affairs Péter Holicha also highlighted prospects for cooperation in the energy sphere. According to him, the sides discussed gas trade, joint projects on developing Caspian hydrocarbon fields, as well as opportunities in renewable energy.

Holicha underlined that the dialogue will continue in October at the International Energy Forum in Turkmenistan, where a Hungarian delegation is expected to participate. “The forum will serve as a platform to explore new opportunities for deepening partnership both bilaterally and regionally,” he said.
