The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a 22-month Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) for Tajikistan in response to the authorities' request in Dushanbe to anchor economic policies and support the implementation of vital structural reforms, Avesta reports.

The PCI program aims to support macroeconomic stability, strengthen the political foundations of the country's authorities, and contribute to their efforts in achieving more sustainable and inclusive growth. The program's progress will be reviewed every six months according to a fixed schedule. The program aims to improve budget stability, increase opportunities for priority social and development expenditures, and continue the process of reducing the national debt.

Fiscal reforms within the program enhance revenue mobilization and expenditure efficiency, strengthen social protection for the most vulnerable segments of the population, and contribute to a gradual transition to inflation targeting.

Priority issues covered in the program include increasing opportunities for Tajikistan's long-term development, improving central bank governance, enhancing oversight and management of fiscal risks associated with state-owned enterprises, more effective mechanisms for AML/CFT/FRM, and combating corruption, increasing transparency in the extractive sector, financial inclusion, and climate risk resilience.
