The mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which arrived in Kyrgyzstan for consultations, expressed concern about the macroeconomic situation in the country during a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Economy of Kyrgyzstan. reports the portal Economist.kg.
The meeting at the Ministry of Economy was held with the participation of the First Deputy Minister of Economy of Kyrgyzstan Choro Seyitov and the head of the IMF mission Nikoloz Gigineishvili.
The meeting discussed the latest changes in the economy and the prospects for the socio-economic development of Kyrgyzstan. Seyitov briefly highlighted the results of the nine months of this year, spoke about the current situation in the economy and measures taken to overcome the impact of negative external shocks on the economy of Kyrgyzstan. The Deputy Minister also gave detailed information on the questions of interest to the mission, the press service of the Ministry of Economy of Kyrgyzstan reported.
In turn, Gigineishvili thanked for the comprehensive information provided, spoke about the goals of this mission and gave an assessment of the macroeconomic situation in Kyrgyzstan, expressing concern on some issues.
Gigineishvili also drew attention to the implementation of reforms in Kyrgyzstan in such areas as the public sector employment system and wage fund, the energy sector, and public procurement.
According to the head of the mission, the IMF staff prepared analytical materials on the topics “Social protection systems and poverty in Kyrgyzstan”, “Adaptation to climate change and mitigation of its consequences in Kyrgyzstan”, “Governance of state enterprises”. Gigineishvili expressed readiness to discuss these areas and joint work to develop effective mechanisms.
The purpose of the visit of the IMF mission is to conduct consultations for Kyrgyzstan. During the visit, meetings will be held with representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers, the National Bank and other organizations. The work of the mission will last until November 22, 2022
