The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has released its updated ranking of countries by nominal GDP per capita. According to the IMF, Tajikistan ranks 167th out of 195 countries and territories, with a GDP per capita of $1,430, placing it between Nepal and Uganda, reports Asiaplus.tj.

Among the post-Soviet states, Tajikistan continues to have the lowest GDP per capita, remaining at the bottom of the regional list. In contrast, the Baltic countries lead the region: Estonia — $32,760, Lithuania — $30,840, and Latvia — $24,370.

Over the past three decades, the highest growth among former Soviet republics was recorded in the South Caucasus: Armenia grew 19.4 times, Azerbaijan 19.1 times, and Georgia 16.3 times. Tajikistan’s GDP per capita increased 6.7 times, matching Ukraine, which has been at war for four years. The lowest growth was seen in Uzbekistan and Russia, both at 5.3 times.

IMF experts note that the wide variation in figures reflects significant differences in economic structures and development dynamics across post-Soviet states.

GDP per capita remains a key indicator of economic activity and living standards, showing the average value of goods and services produced per person. Analysts caution, however, that this average does not reflect income distribution, as disparities persist across populations.

Nevertheless, the growth trend in GDP per capita continues to serve as an important benchmark for assessing economic stability and public welfare.
