The 62nd meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Caspian Sea issues was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, reports Turkmenportal.tm.
The meeting was attended by relevant deputy prime ministers, heads, and representatives of several ministries and specialized departments of Turkmenistan.
Participants discussed the "Caspian Environmental Initiative," proposed by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow at the plenary session of the 78th UN General Assembly. This initiative aims to become a new international platform for substantive and professional interaction on a wide range of issues related to the protection of the Caspian environment.
Additionally, information was provided on the results of the Commission's work for the first half of the year according to the 2024 plan, with a special emphasis on upcoming tasks.
Preparation for the celebration of Caspian Sea Day, which is observed annually on August 12, was also discussed.
According to official data from the relevant authorities of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, the level of the Caspian Sea has significantly decreased over the past few years.
